She folds!

We're in the middle of the third-in-a-row happy day at daycare. Lucy's giving up the fight, it seems (hope I'm not jinxing us), after 6 full weeks of fighting it with every ounce of daycare resistance she could muster. But yesterday, Monday, so far today...amazing. Yesterday she even slept for an hour, which is unprecedented -- even at home she usually sleeps less than that.

So, for those of you who follow after, some tips that have made this the stellar transition it's been thus far:

  • Kid won't eat at daycare, choosing instead to fling food, plates, and full cups of milk in anger? Here's a handy tip: don't feed her at home! Chances are she'll begin eating at daycare soon enough!
  • Kid won't let go when you try to drop her off, instead clinging like a lichen to the tree trunk you've become? Coat yourself, or her, or perhaps both in some kind of slippery oil...she'll slide right off and puddle into a weepy mess at your feet; then you can make your own weepy escape (and here's another helpful hint -- if you then sob uncontrollably in the hallway or your car, your tears will help wash away the oil!).
  • Kid won't sleep at daycare? (Actually, I have no idea what to do about that. I'm sure as hell not keeping her awake at home.)
  • Kid now demands never-ending rounds of "Wheels on the Bus," having learned it at daycare? Suck it up, mama/dad...that's life with baby. Sing, sing like you've never sung before (i.e. inanely, endlessly, opening and closing those doors like your life depends on it).

Here's an email from the daycare today:

Me: So, is Lucy still on the path to happiness, or has she taken a turn again today?

Teacher Darcie: An AWESOME day Melissa!!!! But only a 35 minute nap!

Me: But happy, eating?

Teacher Darcie: Yes- ate well, great snack and lunch. Very happy this morning, no binky or blankie! A little sad right now, but I’d be sad too if I only slept 35minutes!

So that's wonderful. Way to fight, kiddo, but way to give in, too. (Kidding about not feeding the kid at home, by the way. But about coating yourself in oil...TOTALLY serious about that.)

I'm so glad things are finally getting easier. I'll have to take note of the oil trick for future reference!

I have been feeling terrible about the whole 'leaving Lucy' business but I'm happy to hear she is happy. (Finally)

Can't wait for Saturday! What time?
