A life measured in laundry...

My life consists of piles these days.

Of laundry: Matthew wrote in the last post that we've known Lulu for almost 2 years now, which is shocking. I think this is true and not just a bloggy exaggeration, though -- I've done more laundry in the past two years than I did in the preceding 10 altogether. It's NEVERENDING. I also haven't left the house in entirely clean clothes myself in the past almost-two years.

Of work: unbelievably busy these days. Working evenings, weekends...in fact, it's 7:06 on Sunday morning; I'm sitting in my bedroom writing now but in a minute I'm going to fold a load of laundry (of-friggin'-course), shower, and go to work.

Of guilt: I only see LittleLu about 2 hours/day on average these days. Sucks.

Of happiness: oh, those 2 hours are just delightful. She's the sweetest kid; I never expected this kind of personality in my life. She's so funny, too. Picking up more words (still can't understand most of them, but can tell she's trying more). There's a page in her Olivia book where Olivia tries to recreate a Jackson Pollock painting on her bedroom wall; every time Lucy says "Uh oh, time out" and it just makes me so happy. And she prefers the inexplicable Yo Gabba Gabba over any other program, we try to watch a little Elmo or Wonder Pets for variety and she'll watch 5 minutes then start pipping up with a cute little "Yo?" "Yo?" Then escalating: "YO?" "YO!" Then more, and this is my favorite part, the announcer-like windup: "YYYYYYOOOOOO!!" Then, she'll assume you're just not understanding so she'll clamber over whatever obstacle, find the remote, and bring it over. And possibly whack us with it. Point taken, little one.

Sorry things sound so crazy busy - not so much fun. But Lucy? Fun, fun, fun. Delaney has figured out about the remote too - will hand it to me if she is bored with a section of a show and wants me to ff (so, so dangerous that she knows this already)!

She makes it all worth it, right? Trite, but true. Sorry you are working so much, but I'm glad your little love provides so much joy.

As far as laundry - ugh. I don't mind the actually doing, washing and drying. It's the endless folding and putting away. We have a chronic underwear shortage going on in this house.

Ahhh, the laundry. It is never ending. It is the one household chore I hate the most, but I'm too retentive to let anyone else do it (though they are always welcome to help fold, which is the harder part, anyway). Hopefully work slows down for you soon so you can spend more time with your cute girl.

I too hate the putting away of the laundry part almost as much as I dislike Yo Gaba Gaba. DYlan disagrees, he loves tossing the clean folded laundry about and thinks Yo Gaba rocks.
